What is the Cybersecurity Internship?
The Cybersecurity Micro-Internship at Silver Creek High School provides students with a unique opportunity to apply cybersecurity knowledge in real-world settings while serving the local community. During this two-week program, student teams partner with local small businesses to conduct a focused cybersecurity audit using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Through guided research, interviews, and analysis, students develop practical recommendations to help organizations strengthen their security posture, reduce risk, and better protect their data.
Beyond technical learning, the program focuses on developing the holistic learner. Students participate in purpose sessions and reflective activities designed to strengthen durable skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and professional responsibility. Throughout the internship, students practice interviewing stakeholders, working effectively in teams, presenting technical findings to non-technical audiences, and translating complex cybersecurity concepts into clear recommendations. These experiences help students build confidence, professional identity, and the skills needed to thrive in both college and the workforce.
At the same time, the program embodies service-based learning. By offering cybersecurity insights and recommendations to local businesses at no cost, students contribute meaningfully to the community while helping organizations become more secure and resilient. The internship creates a powerful partnership between schools and local businesses—strengthening both the workforce of the future and the safety of our local digital ecosystem.
